This is a premium 3-axis joystick featuring a robust rubber boot and spring return to center (X and Y springs are removable). Each axis is connected to a 10k ohm linear potentiometer, with adjustable potentiometers on the gimbals for center point calibration. The joysticks provide a 50-degree range in each direction, utilizing the full capacity of the 10K ohm potentiometer for heightened sensitivity.
The third axis integrates a twist knob with a spring return to center potentiometer, while the fourth axis is a momentary push button. The potentiometer spans the full range from ~0k to ~10k, with the joystick having ~5k in the center. When properly connected (ground to one leg, 5V to the other leg), it produces a 0-5V analog output on the middle sweeper arm, with 2.5V in the center position.
It is crucial to meter the potentiometers with an ohm meter before connecting voltage to prevent damage if incorrectly hooked up. Typically, the third axis uses the black wire as the sweeper, and Red and White are usually the two sides of the pot. Measuring the resistance between them reveals that it's 10K ohms between Red and White, and 5K from black to either side, varying as the knob is turned.
